Spiritual Time Of Year
/Hello Yogis!
“This is such a spiritual time of year” said a yogi. The muscular statement took me by surprise. And yet, goodness me, it’s such a spiritual time of year! Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice frame a time of spiritual traditions, festivity and special foods all over the world. Harvest is celebrated, the dead are honoured, the moon is glorified, the darkness is lit and, in monsoon countries, rains come to an end. Celebration is everywhere accompanied by customs of presents and generosity.
Y’ know, the more celebratory you feel, the more energy you have! Yoga, in any case, is celebratory enough and an hour on your mat is a lovely practice of generosity to yourself. Stretching releases endorphins. Breathing improves energy. Postures improve flexibility. Moving up and down, this way and that, improves your physical and mental confidence. Good feelings lead to gratitude. Gratitude is probably the most spiritual you can be!
Classes
I’m really delighted to see new people continuing to find me through a google search. Monday is by far the most popular class and I’m wondering if a 5.30pm class on Mondays would suit any of you. Let me know what you think. You can book here for Monday and Tuesday stretchy classes at 7.00pm, Wednesday Ashtanga at 7.00pm and Friday morning Ashtanga at 8.30am.
Come along!
Survey
Here’s a survey for those of you who have come on retreat with me and stayed in Porto Delfino in Kapsali with me. Major changes are happening to the hotel for people who are looking for a yoga, spa and self-care holiday. Please have a look at the survey, it won’t take long.
Yoga In The News
The Times has: Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's cure claims are a stretch, says Indian Watchdog. ‘Baba Ramdev’s company, Patanjali, claims the medicines can treat diabetes, glaucoma, hypertension, goitre and high cholesterol. But the Indian Medical Association has been contesting his claims for years’. He 'claimed in 2020 that one of his concoctions could cure Covid-19.
Eastern Eye has: Indian state revokes ban imposed on products of yoga guru Ram Dev.
Travel Daily has: How Yoga Can Improve Your Corporate Culture? (How’s this for one sentence? I almost didn’t include it.) ‘It is not just the motivation to maintain a calm atmosphere at work, it is also the rising health concerns and postural concerns among the employees due to a sedentary lifestyle, poor eating habits, sitting in incorrect postures, and resorting to unhealthy stress busters that inspire the companies to introduce corporate yoga as part of their routine so that the employees can be driven towards taking up healthier habits and in turn, inculcate a healthy body and mind.’
