September 2022 Magic Kapsali Yoga Retreat

Dear Yogis!

Well! I want to ask you how you’d feel about a yoga retreat this September? We used to fly out to Kythera, Greece, on the second weekend of September which, this year, is Saturday 10th. A nice thing about this year is that the orchestra I used to play with will be there at the same time so we can add a blissful classical concert to our experience.

We have an absolutely lovely home during our stay on the island - Porto Delfino. Have a look at their Instagram or Facebook. Mirto, the manager and qualified yoga teacher, has some videos of yoga in the shala and on the terrace overlooking the sea. (The conference room has been remodelled as a shala and there is a dedicated space for massages and treatments. If you don’t have Instagram, look at my website for pictures of our previous yoga retreats in the perfect tiny seaside village of Kapsali, the birthplace of Aphrodite. I’ve left the details of the last retreat, 2019, for you to get an idea of arrangements.

We had our first retreat in 2015. We’ve skipped the last two years. It’s time to go back! We’ve taught both Ashtanga retreats and ‘Hatha’ retreats. A couple of times I’ve stayed for two weeks and welcomed two groups, one after the other. We have the best afternoon workshops! The nature of the village is that you make friends easily and feel at home quickly. Other delights: you can arrive on an earlier date and stay to a later date; you can also dive and snorkel and hike; you can hire a car and see investigate the beaches, historic sites and gastronomic treats of the island. It’s not a locked-up-and-meditate retreat! I’ve been visiting the island since 2004 and I want you to love it as I do.

Let me know if you’re interested so I can get an idea of numbers. Let me know if you want Ashtanga or something gentler. I hope you’ll come and treat yourself to this beautiful corner of the world.

Zoom Classes

Well… I promised that changes are coming! The Tuesday morning Ashtanga proposal was popular so it has been added to the schedule and is now bookable. So, from next week, Ashtanga will be on Tuesday and Thursday at 8.00am. You can book all the classes here.

Yoga in the news

The Metro has: 'I thought yoga was soulless and overwhelming - now I need it'. ‘Yoga can feel uncomfortable in the beginning, mentally and physically… We have to build these neural pathways from our brain to our body to tell our body what we want it to do, so repetition is really good, that’s how we learn, and yoga is a lifelong learning process.

Marie Claire has: Pilates vs yoga: learn the main differences between the workouts, plus which is most effective for you. ‘Pilates is a more modern workout technique initially developed as a rehabilitative tool. Joseph Pilates – hence the name – was a German gymnast born in 1883, who dedicated his life to teaching his exercising techniques and repeating the mantra that poor posture goes hand-in-hand with poor health.’

The Bookseller has: Yellow Kite lands 'powerful' third book from Bates. Bates said: “I used to find the slightly esoteric language used by yoga teachers quite alienating, but by mapping the concepts onto the world of psychotherapy it made greater sense to me. It’s so upsetting when people see yoga as just another form of exercise, or feel they have to be a certain body shape or size to be able to give it a go. Yoga is for everyone—whether you can touch your toes or fit into lycra leggings is completely irrelevant, it’s about learning how to make contact with yourself in a kinder, more understanding way.”’
